12 modules — platform fundamentals to capstone

Each module: concept overview, hands-on assignments on the GIM Corp case study, and real interview guidance built in from the start.

Interview prep every module

Freshers often confuse Joule, Joule Studio, and SAP AI Agent Hub. This module establishes clear vocabulary and the platform's overall shape before any hands-on work.

  • Definition and scope of SAP Business AI
  • The shift from embedded AI features to agentic, autonomous processes
  • Three-layer architecture: Context, Build, Governance
  • Joule as the unifying conversational interface across SAP applications
  • Embedded AI vs generative AI vs agentic AI within SAP
Interview note — SAP Business AI is SAP's platform strategy for embedding generative and agentic AI directly into business processes and data, structured around a context layer, a build layer, and a governance layer.

Joule is the front door most business users experience first. Understanding what it can and cannot do is essential before discussing the underlying platform.

  • Joule's role as a conversational, role-aware assistant
  • Joule live across 35+ solutions, from Datasphere to industry-specific applications
  • Role-awareness: job function, permissions, and organisational context
  • Joule Skills as discrete, reusable conversational capabilities
  • "Joule Work" as a new interaction paradigm replacing app navigation
Interview note — Joule differs from a generic chatbot because its answers and actions are grounded in the user's actual business data, permissions, and process context, not generic knowledge.

Understanding the licensing and architecture model — token-based, governed multi-model access — is essential for anyone advising organisations on cost and model selection.

  • Purpose of AI Foundation on SAP BTP
  • Generative AI Hub as the governed access point for foundation models
  • Model access: GPT 5.2, Gemini 3.0 Pro, Claude Opus 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.6
  • Token-based pricing converted into AI Units, varying by model
  • Prompt registry, prompt optimisation, and metadata filtering
Interview note — The Generative AI Hub lets enterprises swap or combine foundation models per use case while keeping a single governance and security layer, reducing vendor lock-in risk.

This differentiates SAP's AI strategy from "just wrapping a third-party LLM" — a common client and interview conversation point.

  • SAP-ABAP-1: trained on 250 million lines of ABAP, 20–25% dev productivity gain
  • SAP-RPT-1: SAP's first enterprise relational foundation model for tabular data
  • Joule invoking SAP-RPT-1 on structured Datasphere datasets for predictive analytics
  • Trade-off: deeper SAP-specific value vs increased ecosystem dependency
Interview note — SAP-RPT-1 is built for structured, tabular business data and relational prediction, while SAP-ABAP-1 is purpose-built to understand and generate ABAP code.

Most failed enterprise AI projects fail due to poor data grounding, not poor models. This module teaches why "context" is the foundation of trustworthy AI in SAP.

  • SAP Knowledge Graph: a structured map of entities, processes and relationships
  • Decades of SAP ERP engineering encoded into machine-readable semantics
  • Role of SAP Business Data Cloud in unifying SAP and non-SAP data
  • Solving data fragmentation — the reason many AI initiatives stay stuck in pilot mode
Interview note — Without the context layer, even a powerful LLM is essentially a generic chatbot without SAP context — grounding in real business data and process semantics is what makes Joule enterprise-ready.

This is the most hands-on, technically significant module for anyone pursuing a Business AI developer or consultant track — it's where actual agent-building happens.

  • Full lifecycle agent building, natively grounded in live business data
  • Agent Builder: triggers, data sources, actions, escalation logic
  • Skill Library — reuse and extension of existing Joule Skills
  • Joule Studio CLI and VS Code Extension for code-based development
  • MCP Server Integration for connecting to external, non-SAP toolchains
  • Persistent, long-term agent memory powered by SAP HANA Cloud
Interview note — Joule Studio differentiates itself by being natively grounded in a customer's live SAP data and process semantics, rather than requiring agents built from scratch against disconnected APIs.

Governance is often overlooked by technically-minded freshers but is a top concern for enterprise buyers — and a recurring theme in client and interview discussions.

  • SAP AI Agent Hub built on SAP LeanIX: discovery, verification, observability, policy
  • Managing, monitoring and auditing dozens or hundreds of agents at scale
  • Lifecycle management, controlled deployments, standardised schema validation
  • Agent-to-agent protocol enabling work across SAP and non-SAP systems
Interview note — A common challenge SAP itself cites is enterprise AI getting "stuck in pilot mode" without proper governance — AI Agent Hub exists to move organisations to managed, scaled deployment.

This module connects the abstract platform discussion to concrete, demonstrable use cases that learners can discuss confidently with business stakeholders.

  • Finance: e-invoicing error translation, Dispute Resolution Agent, payment advice
  • Supply Chain: Project Setup Agent, natural-language Excel formulas, manufacturing issue summaries
  • SAP Document AI: custom confidence thresholds, expanded document support
  • SAP Autonomous Suite: 50+ domain-specific Joule Assistants across functions
Interview note — Grounding answers in specific embedded capabilities — invoice dispute resolution, document processing — demonstrates practical understanding beyond buzzwords.

Industry AI shows how horizontal AI Foundation capabilities get specialised for vertical-specific value — key for consultants working within a specific sector.

  • Industry AI: start-to-finish industry processes with sector-specific logic
  • Autonomous Asset Management example: RWE offshore wind turbine downtime reduction
Interview note — Industry AI use cases demonstrate SAP's argument that generic AI tools lack the embedded regulatory and process knowledge needed for sector-specific accuracy.

This represents the frontier of where SAP's user experience is heading — important context for anyone advising on future-state design.

  • Multi-agent orchestration across finance, supply chain, and HR domains
  • Example: payment dispute resolution via collections, invoicing, and support agents
  • Joule Work: describing outcomes instead of navigating individual applications
  • The "AI Copilot conductor" model — humans as composers defining tasks and objectives
Interview note — True agentic orchestration involves multiple specialised agents coordinating across domains to resolve a single business outcome, with humans retaining ultimate control.

Trust and explainability are recurring client and compliance concerns. Freshers must be able to discuss these guardrails, not just the AI capabilities themselves.

  • Citation side panels grouped for clarity, with web search source attribution
  • SAP Document AI custom confidence thresholds for accuracy control
  • Responsible AI principles: transparency, fairness, data privacy on BTP
  • The "80% accuracy isn't enough" principle for mission-critical processes
Interview note — Referencing built-in mechanisms like confidence thresholds and citation transparency demonstrates awareness of how enterprise AI differs from consumer-grade tools.

The capstone is the most important module for portfolio building — learners must demonstrate they can think end-to-end, not just describe individual features.

  • End-to-end application of the Context / Build / Governance architecture
  • Independent problem definition and AI solution design
  • Model selection, grounding approach, and governance control justification
  • Full procure-to-pay solution: agents, triggers, actions, escalation
  • Governance controls via SAP AI Agent Hub
  • Stakeholder-ready presentation with business impact projections
Interview note — When asked to describe a Business AI project, structure the answer around: business problem → data/context grounding → agent design → governance approach → measured business impact.

3 ★

The 5-star reviews consistently mention the same thing: the Context/Build/Governance framework replacing months of scattered, buzzword-heavy reading with a structure they could actually explain to a client. The 4-star group was happy overall but wanted more repetition time on the harder modules — the Generative AI Hub pricing model and the SAP AI Agent Hub governance module came up most. The 3-star reviews were the most useful to us internally: a recurring note was wanting more hands-on time before the capstone. We've since added an extra guided lab session ahead of Module 12.
